El txakoli 42 by Eneko Atxa se impuso en una cata ciega, realizada en copas negras y sin que los catadores, que solo se guían por el olfato y el gusto, conozcan dato alguno sobre la procedencia de las uvas, ya que ni siquiera ven el color del líquido que degustan. Participaron 363 expertos de 51 países. El txakoli vizcaíno se impuso en su categoría entre 9.150 vinos provenientes de 46 países en el certamen celebrado en la localidad suiza de Aingle.
El galardón representa la definitiva puesta de largo internacional de los vinos de esta denominación. El premio introduce al txakoli en la primera división de los vinos blancos del mundo y, al decir de Josera Calvo, enólogo responsable de este 42 by Eneko Atxa, «es un espaldarazo a la idea fundacional de la bodega: hacer vinos diferentes, criados con sus lías en madera y que son capaces de mejorar con los años».
Tras ser vendimiadas en el cálido otoño de 2015, las uvas de la variedad Hondarrabi Zerratia fermentaron en una tina de roble francés de 5.000 litros, donde pasaron diez meses junto a sus lías (levaduras). En ese tiempo, el mosto fue sometido a un batonnage diario, una técnica que consiste en remover las lías finas con el vino en el interior de la barrica.
El vino nació para acompañar los platos de los dos menús (Adarrak, las ramas, y Erroak, las raíces) que sirve Eneko Atxa en su restaurante Azurmendi, el más sostenible del mundo en 2018 y que ostenta tres estrellas Michelin. El nombre 42 by Eneko Atxa es «una seña de identidad familiar e íntima, el nexo de unión entre Azurmendi y la bodega», señala Calvo. El txakoli, de muy escasa producción (apenas 6.700 botellas), se encuentra agotado en la actualidad, aunque un pequeño número de botellas se custodia en el propio restaurante así como en la zona de envejecimiento de la bodega Gorka Izagirre, donde se sigue observando su evolución en botella.
El premio, subraya Josera Calvo, refuerza a la bodega («y de paso a todos los productores vascos de txakoli») en la idea de que, por la acidez y el frescor de las uvas, es un vino de guarda que puede ver enriquecidos sus matices con la crianza en madera.
«El txakoli es uno de los grandes vinos de Europa. Envejece bien por su acidez y mantiene en el tiempo ese esqueleto, ese nervio que lo hace tan característico y singular… Este no es solo el éxito de nuestra bodega sino el triunfo de todos aquellos que valoran nuestro esfuerzo y nuestro trabajo pagando las copas de txakoli», sostiene Calvo.
Se trata de la primera vez que un D.O. Bizkaiko Txakolina obtiene la Gran Medalla de Oro y el Trofeo del Mejor Vino Blanco en el concurso mundial. Además de este galardón al 42 by Eneko Atxa, el vino blanco Gorka Izagirre de la cosecha 2018, de la misma bodega, ha obtenido una Medalla de Oro.

El txakoli 42 by Eneko Atxa 2015 de la bodega Gorka Izagirre, ha sido reconocido como mejor vino blanco internacional en el Concurso Mundial de Bruselas que se ha celebrado en Aingle (Suiza). El certamen ha contado con la participación de 9.150 vinos de 46 países productores, los cuales han sido evaluados por un total de 363 expertos de 51 países. Se trata de la primera vez que un D.O. Bizkaiko Txakolina obtiene esta calificación a nivel mundial. La Gran Medalla de Oro y el Trofeo del Mejor Vino Blanco de todo el concurso han recaído en este txakoli del 2015 al ser el vino con la puntuación más alta de todos los presentados. Además de este galardón, el vino blanco ‘Gorka Izagirre’ 2018, de la misma bodega,ha obtenido la Medalla de Oro.
Este premio refuerza la apuesta de la bodega Gorka Izagirre por trabajar con nuestras variedades autóctonas en la elaboración de txakolis con crianzas que hacen que estos mejoren con el paso de los años, tanto en depósitos como en botella.

42 by Eneko Atxa nace del deseo de elaborar un vino arropado por un roble limpio, respetando el carácter de nuestra Hondarrabi Zerratia, una variedad atlántica que se cultiva únicamente en el País Vasco y el sur de Francia. Se trata de racimos pequeños y concentrados llenos de carácter y personalidad que dan a los vinos de Gorka Izagirre una identidad propia.
El mosto seleccionado fermenta y se cría en una tina de roble francés de 5.000 litros de capacidad antes de pasar a madurar en botella.

La bodega Gorka Izagirre:
Un proyecto familiar que nace en el viñedo y evoluciona constantemente para lograr txakolis de alta calidad, manteniendo inalterable su identidad y origen: Bizkaia.
Fundada en el año 2005 por la familia Izagirre y liderada por el enólogo José Ramón Calvo es un proyecto que nace de la tierra y busca la evolución de un vino con gran historia como es el Txakoli. Un vino con carácter único, elaborado con variedades autóctonas dispuesto a abrirse paso entre los grandes blancos del mundo.
Cada una de las 14 pequeñas parcelas de la bodega, ubicadas en fuertes pendientes, se trabaja de forma separada, de este modo conocemos año tras año las características de cada una de ellas, ensamblándolas después del mejor modo posible para crear los txakolis de Gorka Izagirre.

El txakoli 42 by Eneko Atxa 2015, de la bodega Gorka Izagirre, adscrita a la Denominación de Origen Bizkaiko Txakolina, ha sido elegido como el Mejor Vino Blanco internacional en el Concurso Mundial de Bruselas celebrado la semana pasada en Aingle (Suiza).
Según ha informado Bizkaiko Txakolina, este txakoli ha sido reconocido entre 9.150 vinos procedentes de 46 países, tras una cata a ciegas llevada a cabo por un panel de 363 expertos de 51 países. Es la primera vez que un txakoli de la DO Bizkaiko Txakolina obtiene esta calificación a nivel mundial.

El 42 by Eneko Atxa 2015 ha sido distinguido con la Gran Medalla de Oro y elTrofeo al Mejor Vino Blanco al obtener la mayor puntuación de todos los vinos presentados. Además de este galardón, otro txakoli de la bodega Gorka Izagirre, el Gorka Izagirre de 2018, ha obtenido la Medalla de Oro en el mismo concurso.
El 42 by Eneko Atxa 2015 es un txakoli elaborado en barrica de roble con la variedad Hondarrabi Zerratia, una uva atlántica que se cultiva únicamente en Euskadi. El premio obtenido por un txakoli de una de las bodegas de la DO Bizkaiko Txakolina significa un “reconocimiento internacional al trabajo que viene desarrollando la Denominación a lo largo de los 25 años de vida que cumple precisamente este año”, ha destacado.

La palabra txakoli (o chacolí en castellano) viene de la expresión vasca “etxeko ain“, que significa “sólo para el hogar“. Y durante mucho tiempo, los vinos de txakoli fueron considerados justamente así: vinos caseros, jóvenes, baratos y de alta acidez. En los últimos años, sin embargo, estos vinos blancos vascos han experimentado un verdadero renacimiento, estableciéndose como vinos de gran calidad, modernos y con un carácter único inspirado en el clima y el terruño atlántico.
El ejemplo perfecto de este cambio de mentalidad es el 42 by Eneko Atxa de Gorka Izagirre, que obtuvo el premio Revelación Internacional del Vino Blanco 2019 del Concours Mondial de Bruxelles.

42 by Eneko Atxa es un vino exclusivo, sólo se elaboran 7.000 botellas al año y en la actualidad está totalmente agotado. Calvo explica más: “El interés suscitado por el premio Revelación ha sido impresionante. Las 1.500 botellas que quedaban en la bodega fueron recogidas en 3 días.”

Gorka Izagirre forma parte de ARAEX Grands (Spanish Fine Wines), el grupo español líder de bodegas independientes que han liderado la aparición de nuevos tipos de vino, preservando la autenticidad del txakoli en un mercado cada vez más globalizado.
La Denominación de Origen Bizkaiko Txakolina, creada hace 25 años, garantiza que el vino cumpla con unos estrictos estándares de calidad a lo largo de todo el proceso de elaboración, desde el viñedo hasta la botella. Los requisitos incluyen la ubicación de los viñedos, que no pueden estar a más de 400 metros sobre el nivel del mar, lo que confiere al vino las condiciones agroclimáticas distintivas del terruño.

Un número limitado de vinos son producidos por Gorka Izagirre, todos ellos de uvas blancas autóctonas del País Vasco.

Estas variedades dan identidad a nuestros vinos, los diferencian de los demás y despiertan la curiosidad de nuestros clientes. Los vinos de Hondarrabi Zuri y Hondarrabi Zuri Zerratia no son exuberantes en nariz, pero destacan por su equilibrio, frescura y elegancia.”

El tradicional txakoli blanco ha evolucionado no sólo en calidad sino también por su variedad: el txakoli de nueva generación puede ser joven y afrutado, macerado sobre lías, envejecido en barricas, espumoso y también rosado y tinto.
“Aunque existe un creciente interés por los vinos vascos elaborados con uvas autóctonas, todavía queda mucho trabajo por hacer“, explica Joserra Calvo. “Los productores deben hacer un esfuerzo por promocionar los diferentes tipos de txakolis y dejar claro a los clientes que, además de los vinos jóvenes secos, existen ejemplos más complejos, envejecidos sobre lías o fermentados en barricas. El premio Revelación para nuestro 42 by Eneko Atxa demuestra que un txakoli elaborado en 2015 puede ser excelente y competir con cualquier vino blanco del mundo manteniendo intacta su identidad.”
En el futuro, los bodegueros de Gorka Izagirre quieren sorprender a sus clientes añadiendo un vino tinto a su gama de productos y, fiel a la filosofía de la bodega, será de la variedad autóctona Hondarrabi Beltza.

Crianza sobre lías durante 10 meses, las lías se remueven diariamente hasta alcanzar una perfecta armonía entre fruta, madera y lías.
Nota de cata: De color amarillo dorado con reflejos verdosos, la nariz evoca los aromas limpios e intensos de melocotón blanco maduro y cítricos como el pomelo rosado, aunque también se puede disfrutar de los aromas de tostados, de bollería y de la crianza en roble. El cuerpo es potente y glicérico, con una base de manzana madura, cítricos y frutas tropicales, acompañado de un sutil aroma ahumado de mantequilla tostada y una delicada acidez. Un vino característico, de larga vida y con un fantástico potencial de envejecimiento.
Sobre la bodega:
Gorka Izagirre cuenta con cuarenta hectáreas de viñedo divididas en pequeñas parcelas integradas en el territorio de Bizkaia. El aire de la costa, las escarpadas colinas, el sol del sureste por la mañana, las parcelas bien aireadas y las verdes y exuberantes laderas confieren a los vinos una frescura y un carácter únicos.
La compleja geografía de las tierras requiere una delicada cosecha manual en el mes de octubre. Los racimos pequeños y apretados proporcionan un bajo rendimiento concentrado por hectárea, lo que permite una maduración óptima, creando vinos estructurados de la más alta calidad.

ESPAÑA LIDERA EL CONCOURS MONDIAL DE BRUXELLES 2019
Los resultados del Concours Mondial de Bruxelles 2019, que tuvo lugar en Aigle, Suiza del 1 al 5 de mayo, ya están disponibles. El jurado internacional, compuesto por 340 expertos en vino, otorgó medallas de plata, oro y gran oro a vinos de 43 países de todo el mundo.
España lidera la clasificación con 626 medallas, la mayoría de las cuales fueron otorgadas a vinos de la región de Castilla y León y Rioja. La tempranillo con 265 medallas es todavía la estrella de la competición aunque se nota un creciente protagonismo de las variedades garnacha (72) y verdejo (27). Francia quedó en segundo lugar con 614 galardones. La merlot ha demostrado ser la variedad de uva gala por excelencia, con más del 32% de las medallas francesas. Las variedades de uva autóctonas de Italia impulsaron el buen resultado del país, que ocupó el tercer lugar en número de medallas (383). Sangiovese, Primitivo, Glera y Nero d’Avola obtuvieron la mayor puntuación entre los vinos italianos. Portugal obtuvo 365 medallas en el concurso, logrando así el cuarto puesto. El país anfitrión, Suiza, recibió 172 distinciones, con los vinos de Chasselas en primera posición, seguidos por la Pinot Noir, la Merlot, la Petite Arvine y la Cornalin.
Las variedades tintas más premiadas en el Concours Mondial de Bruxelles 2019 fueron la Merlot (268), la Tempranillo (260), la Cabernet Sauvignon (221), la Syrah (135) y la Garnacha (93). Entre las variedades blancas, las favoritas del jurado fueron la Sauvignon Blanc (102), la Chardonnay (91), la Chasselas (30), el Verdejo (29) y el Albariño (20).
Apenas un uno por ciento de los vinos del concurso recibió la prestigiosa Gran Medalla de Oro, el máximo reconocimiento otorgado por el Concours Mondial de Bruxelles. Los vinos italianos obtuvieron la mayor cantidad de medallas (20) en esta categoría, seguidos inmediatamente por España (18), Francia (12), Portugal (11), Suiza (7) y China (5).
Más del 50% de los vinos premiados en el concurso se venden por menos de 8,5 euros (precio salida de bodega), subrayando así su excelente relación calidad-precio.
La revelación más sorprendente de este año es sin duda el Chant d’Eole Brut Blanc de Blancs – Cuvée Prestige 2014 de… ¡Bélgica! El vino del Domaine du Chant d’Eole lograron superar a más de 700 vinos de todo el mundo, obteniendo la más alta puntuación en la categoría “vinos espumosos”.
El vino tinto Revelación Internacional procede de la bodega El Cielo en México y lleva el insólito nombre de “Caipirinha”. La añada 2016 es un coupage de Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Nebbiolo y Malbec.
El trofeo de la mayor puntuación en la categoría vino blanco internacional fue otorgado a la bodega española Gorka Izagirre por su “42 by Eneko Atxa” 2015 – un vino de la variedad de uva Hondarrabi Zerratia, originaria del País Vasco.
En cuanto a los rosados, el trofeo del mejor vino rosado del Concours Mondial de Bruxelles 2019 también es español: procede de la región de Castilla y León, el Quelias Rosado 2018 de Bodegas Sinforiano (DO Cigales) es un ensamblaje de Albillo 50%, Garnacha 30% Verdejo 10% y Tempranillo 10%.
Por segundo año consecutivo el Trofeo Revelación Vino Biológico viaja a Italia. El ganador de esta edición es la Fabula Riserva 2015 de Azienda Agricola Montebelli en Toscana. Italia es también el país con mayor número de medallas para los vinos ecológicos, seguido de España, Francia y China.
